Garden Workers Wanted at Bergius Botanical Garden

Bergius Botanical Garden is beautifully located on a peninsula in Brunnsviken within the Royal National City Park.

The garden is operated by Stockholm University, and we are a group of 18 permanent employees, of which 10 are gardeners. During the summer season, about 10 seasonal garden workers are added.

The purpose of the operation is to spread knowledge about biodiversity, botany, and horticulture, as well as to provide materials and other resources for research and education. The garden features approximately 6000 plant species from different continents in outdoor facilities and greenhouses. We are visited annually by about 150,000 people and 600 school classes. We are now looking for 10 garden workers for both short and long seasons between March and November. It is important that you specify which months you are available to work.

Job Responsibilities

The job responsibilities vary between positions and mainly include watering, weeding, planting, mowing, pruning, ground work, and maintenance of fixed installations. In some positions, propagation is included. In greenhouses, biological pest control and weekend shifts may also be required. Participation in public events may also occur.

The work is physically demanding.

Qualifications

• You have ongoing or completed horticultural education from a vocational school or other horticultural education/experience that the employer deems equivalent.
• You are proficient in Swedish in both spoken and written form and have computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Work experience in gardening and cultivation in open fields and/or greenhouses
• Experience working in a botanical garden
• Experience using relevant gardening machinery
• Good plant knowledge
• Driver's license (tractor license or higher)
• Lift training.

You have an eye for what needs to be done and are comfortable working both in a team and independently. You are unpretentious and have good collaboration and communication skills.

About the Position

The position primarily concerns full-time work and is a short or long seasonal employment during the period from March to November, as agreed. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting.
